Hostess'
picnic report:
I have had numerous requests for complete
details about the picnic so here goes.
Attendees:
Sheri & Randy
from Culperr, VA with their dd Haley and their friend Phyllis
Vanessa, Margaret,
Debbie & Glynnis from Canada with their dd Fred and non-diabetic
dog Sasha
Marti & Marv
Smith from Greer, SC and their non-diabetic dog Gampo
Christy &
Jeff Hughes from Rustburg, VA and their dd Sadie
Eileen from
Aylett, Va and dd Kanga
Susan and her daughter Debbie from
Waynesboro, VA and dd Reba
Bernie &
Adeline from Canada and their dd Kacey
Denise East
from England. A former Muffin member her dd was Rocky
Ros
from Ozone Park, NY. Her diabetic dog Spooky went to RB May 4th
Pamela and her dd Kate were going to arrive
around 5 PM. They were at a retreat in Richmond but they hit such bad weather
they decided not to come.
Picnic started at 11 AM and ended around
3 PM. We hurried things a long a bit since the weather was unpredictable
but it did not rain during the picnic. I had rented a very large yellow
and white tent to protect us from the sun, but mainly we just watched the
clouds and sun come and go. When everyone arrived, they were given
a gift bag which inclued a MUFFIN key ring, Campbell County HS pencil (where
I volunteer), bandanas for the dogs, name tags for pets & people, descriptive
Virginia postcard , a Eubie 100 dollar bill and dog biscuits.
Each attendee stood up and introduced themselves
and their pet. We then ate lunch. After lunch my veterinarian Dr.
Les Mulligan was our guest speaker and spoke about diabetes in pets.
Then we played games: Musical Chairs and Bobbing for Hot Dogs. Winners
and photos will be posted on the website.
First place winners received a gift bag,
trophy and medal to hang around the dog's neck. Second place
prizes were a gift bag donated by Susan Flewelling. Prizes were also
given to Oldest Dog, Youngest Dog and Longest Diabetic Dog. Their
gift bags consisted of candle votive with 3 candles.
Our tent was decorated with three flags;
one each from the United States, Canada and England.
Then everyone took their Eubie bucks out
of their gift bag. I had numbered them from 1 thru 10. And as I called
each number, that person came up and chose a prize. This way everyone
"won" something. The bakery made a delicious chocolate
cake with buttercream icing and Eubie's photo in icing on top. Again you
will see that on the website.
A dog rescue actually took place as well
thanks to Ros and Eileen. After the picnic they returned to their motel
to rest. On their way back to my house for dinner they found a stray dog
and brought him to my house. Eileen and I took him to the Humane
Society where I am sure her owners were looking for her on Monday.
She was wearing a collar and flea collar but no ID tag. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr
Denise visited with me for a week and we
had a wonderful time. If you wonder why the stock market is doing
so well it is because of all the money she and I spent. We ate and
shopped and ate and shopped some more. We also did some sightseeing.
I am pooped today but it was well worth
it.
My husband took about 30 photos which we
have sent on a disc to Susan with descriptions.
Hopefully, next year we can host another
picnic and once again everyone will be invited.
Hugs,
Dianne & Eubie
