  Seamus was a 119 pound  Irishwolfhound/blk lab cross who was diagnosed with diabetes at 4 years of age.
He had cataract surgery, including implants about 1 yr after being diagnosed.
He adored the ocean

Another great one has passed too soon.  Our loyal and loving
friend, our Nanny Dog has left us.  Mitter (full name Mitternacht) had
been ill the last couple of weeks with nose and eye problems....
This afternoon she sunned herself in the
yard for an hour, came inside, convulsed, and died before she hit
the floor.

She would have been thirteen in May, quite an accomplishment for
an 85 pound Doberman.  She fought hypothyrodism, spay
incontinence, bone spurs, and diabetes but finally became too
weak to fight any more.

She will be remembered as our Nanny
Dog who was always the first to our daughter whenever she cried,
who had to know where she was at all times, and whose loving
soothed many bumps, scrapes and bruises.

Run those fields at The Rainbow Bridge with abandon, sweet girl.
Catch up with your older brother Kaiser.  And look after all the little
children that special touch that only a Doberprincess can provide.
Until we meet again.

"Max went to the Bridge this morning at 9:30 am. It was time for her to be
relieved of her pain and anxiety.  Her passing was swift and peaceful. Thank
you all for your help over the last year or so. I learned so very much from
all of you.This list is a miracle in itself and Max received the best from
it.

"He was a complete and total gentleman to the end, with the regal and noble bearing of the
true elegant being he was, and a hell of a lot braver than I was. ...
My 2 dogs and 2 cats (& many outside critters) my husband and I miss him so
terribly.  Nothing is the same without him.  Even (if I may be personal for a
moment) going to the bathroom isn't the same.  We never close our bathroom
door (just "shut" it) and Patootie would butt it open with that great, big,
gentle head and rest it on our laps and whenever we were in the shower, he
would poke his head inside it make sure we were still there. And what the
heck were we doing with all that water?"

Such a lovingly-loyal boy, who shall be missed immeasurably

Melicia's Mom's 15 year old toy poodle

"My mom let me keep her toy poodle Nikki (dd 15 yr old)
because she would have my dogs for company and she also didnt want to
see her die, even though the dog has been in great health. It has been
many months, Nikki  was very  happy and active. I took her to the vet
for a skin problem and he said she needed her teeth done, she was
supposed to go in today.  She didnt make it, my mom stopped at my house
last thursday  to drop something off and found Nikki was no longer here
in spirit- you just can't escape fate. I have no idea what happened she
was fine when I left in the am, its almost more than I can take."

heart for that and for grieving with me (and Tyler sends grateful
purrs for all the chin and ear scratches).

And thank you, too, for lots of information and support over the past
couple of months - I'm terribly sad that I couldn't turn it into a
reprieve for my guy, but I'm certain that he had a better shot, and I
know that I was more comfortable with the process, as a result of this

evening 4/18/01.  He had been diabetic and receiving his insulin and our
care and close attention for more than 2 1/2 years.  He left sleeping in
my arms.  What a joy and great friend he was to me.  He was over twenty
years old and in good health until the end.  What a brave and good heart
was his.  Everyone who ever met him loved him.  He was my great and good

Just wanted to let all my friends know that Spooky has apparently succumbed to
one of the complications of diabetes. She appears to have suffered a coronary
last night.  For those that didn't know her, Spooky was a Dwarf Hamster, born in
July of 2000.  She was dxed in Oct. 2000 and has been on injections of insulin
since that  time.  Her life has been good, even though she had lost an eye to
trauma, the other to cataracts.  I appreciate the support we have received
through the group and from my diabetic friends.  We have always benefited from
our friendships.  Fondest wishes for good health to all!

 Muffin was diagnosed with diabetes October 1999.
She had an enlarged heart and problems with fluid in her lungs.
She did well in spite of vet saying she would die in 2 years.  This was her favorite dress
