Harry fought a long brave battle with Feline Leukemia and FIP before his Journey to the Bridge on January 01, 2000.
Nancy Johnson described this little guy thus, "Harry, our reluctant star!" She writes, "We buried Harry in a sunny part of the garden in a yard he loved--full of birds and ducks and squirrels. We miss him terribly. Harry had a lot of personality and would converse with you using many different meows and lots of body language. Even when sleeping, he would acknowledge his name with a slight wag of the tip of his tail. He loved food and the diabetes diagnosis was a huge adjustment until he trained Bob to feed him "healthier" people food treats and just include it in the insulin plan. In his younger days he was an incredible jumper--7 ft. from the floor to his favorite cubby hole on top of the kitchen cabinets (with a window view). These past few weeks, when he wouldn't drink much on his own, we started calling the sub-Q Ringers w/potassium chloride "Flubber juice" after the Disney movie "Flubber", because he would perk up and take a flying jump when a half hour earlier he had had to rest after just a few bites of food. Some cats just won't admit they are sick. "

Cleo bravely fought diabetes and CRF before leaving for the Bridge on Thursday, February 03, 2000, at 2:20 p.m. She and her sister Missy were together for all their 13 years after being found abandoned when they were 1 week old. Missy is grieving for her sister very deeply. Sharlene writes of Cleo's funeral, "Cleo's funeral is over. We buried her at Sea Breeze Pet Cemetery in Huntington Beach, California. It's a beautiful, peaceful place. Prior to the burial, we got to spend 1/2 hour with Cleo ... open casket. We were able to place some personal belongings with her to be buried along with her. My husband made a wonderful collage of pictures so that she would remember all of us ... pictures of her and Missy in all their favorite places, pictures of us with Cleo, etc. I also enclosed a love note to her reminding her that we love her so much and that we will meet again one day in Heaven." Meggie's human, Charlotte, was preparing to
go home to Australia when Meggie left for the Bridge. She took Meggie's
ashes with her to scatter in Australia. Charlotte writes, " My lovely
Meg just left us, at the ripe old age of 10, and two years and four months
after being diagnosed
with diabetes. .. She had been a working cattledog
in Australia at my parents' ranch, and I got her when she decided to break
into the chickenyard and help herself to my mum's best laying hens. Meg
moved with me to Texas from Australia in 1995, and at a time when I was
halfway around the world from everyone I knew and cared about, she was
my little shadow. I took her kayaking with me in Austin almost every weekend
until she went blind, and several times after that. We went on roadtrips
together through Louisiana, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Mississippi and
Alabama, and her last big adventure was going camping with me last Thanksgiving.
She had many friends at the vet clinic, and my eyes were not the only ones
red with tears when the time came. I'm moving back to Australia in the
middle of this year, and was hoping Meg would...well, not exactly see,
but at least smell her homeland again. I'm going to take her ashes back
with me and plan to scatter them on the cliff we used to walk along at
the entrance to Sydney Harbor. ... Hug your animals tonight and think of
my Meg. She was a good dog and I loved her very much. I'm going to miss
her.

Barney was 15 1/2 yrs old and had been diabetic for 5 years. Ten days before he was set free, Barney was diagnosed with CRF. Jeanie found the book The Final Farewell comforting and quotes this poem for Barney:
Let Me Go
When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room,
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little-but not too long
and not with your head held low.
Remember the love that we once shared.
Miss me-but let me go.
For this is a journey that we all must take
And each must go alone.
It's all a part of the Master plan,
A step on the road home.
When your are lonely and sick of heart,
Go to the friends we know
And bury your sorrows in doing good deeds.
Miss me-but let me go.

He was born with one deformed foot, and was forever proud of this distinction - whenever he met new people, he would always offer his unique paw in greeting. In honour of this, a pottery cast is being made of this footprint - it really was so special. Mouse loved everyboy and everything equally. His purpose in life was to be with me, and nothing else seemed to matter, so he accepted other dogs, cats, fosters, people, with joy and love. *Nothing* could stress out this dog. A note for Sylvester from Mandy Arnold
(RB 1999)
"Dearest Sylvester:
You don't know me but my name is Mandy. I
am a 12 year old poodle. I came to the bridge last year. I was very very
sick, I even had surgery, a blood transfusion, and the whole nine yards.
My mom visited me at the vet all day, she
would sit on a stool and hold me in her arms with my I.V.s in my paws.
They let her stay there all the time with me.
The last time she saw me, I wasn't breathing
and the Vets even did cpr on me. Mom said to let me go and the whole office
was in tears, even the 3 vets, as well as mom and dad.
She had me cremated cause she couldn't bear
to part with me. She was very very sad and depressed for a while. She has
my picture right here next to her computer. She couldn't stand to be without
a dog, so that's what started her love of rescue.
She knew that's what I would want and in honor
of me, she got a dog the next month.
It is very nice here, lots to do and I've
seen all the muffin furbabies up here too.
We play and eat whatever we want, no more
needles ! I know my mom misses me, but she is at peace knowing that I am
ok and will see her one day.
Tell your mom you are very very prould of
her for making the most important decision of your life,
she loved you enough to adopt you, now she
loves you enough to let you go and let Him adopt you.
She will be very sad for a while, but in time
she will be saying "remember the time..."
and she will think of something funny you
did to make her smile. We will be waiting for you and welcome you
, and will say prayers for your mommy to help her through this very difficult
time.
We love you,
Mandy"

"It's with great sadness that I tell you my
sweet doggie Rascal died last Saturday while we were out of town.
Myy neighbor, Bev, who was looking after her,
called Sat night to say that she had died sometime during the day.
So we had a really sad homecoming last night.
Bev had wrapped her up in ice until we could
get home to bury her.
We buried her in the back yard where she loved
to watch the squirrels and bark at the crows....
I didn't know Rascal's actual birthday (we
rescued her when she was about 6 mos old), so I always celebrated it on
June 10
which is also our wedding anniversary.
She would have been 12 years old last Saturday, which ironically, is also
the day she died. From now on every anniversary will be mixed
with sadness as we remember our girl's passing.
Right now my heart is broken, but I am trying
to focus on all the good days we had together
She was a Lab/Neufie cross,
and had that sweetie-pie personality so common
to both breeds. She never met a person or a dog she didn't like. She was
an angel from day one. Never put a tooth in anything in the house,
house-broke in about 2
minutes, never got into the trash (OK, maybe
once or twice), was always in a good mood, and happy to see everyone.
We had some grand times together.
She was diagnosed with diabetes in April of
1999...
I'm reminded of a few lines from Shakespeare
(English majors always are reminded of a few
lines from Shakespeare, regardless
of the occasion).
These words were spoken by Juliet as she waited
for Romeo to come to her balcony:
"...And when he shall die,
Take him and cut him out in little stars
And he will make the face of heaven so fine,
That all the world will be in love with night."
So tonight, look up at the sky and spare a
kind thought for my angel girl and all the pets we have lost this year
and so sorely miss.

more than likely) and since Pasha got no colostrum she didn't make it.
The rest of the litter joined their little sister at the bridge... Timin

It is with great sadness that I say my good friend Dorothy's Tigger
doggie is going to the Rainbow Bridge this
afternoon (7/14). Tigger is 14 1/2 and has lived with diabetes 4
years. Dorothy is an inspiration to us all. In her eighties and not
one to be a nursemaid, she has faithfully given Tigger his shots
twice a day for 4 years, put dry eve salve in his eyes for almost
that long, seen him thru a few hypo episodes with Karo syrup and agonized
over his blindness from diabetic cataracts. The wealth of information we
received from the wonderful members of this list has helped her immeasurably
and she is so grateful.
Just the other day she was re-reading many
of the posts I have printed for her over the years, saying how she
could relate so well to what was written, having had so many similar experiences.
My Corky and Tigger have been best buddies for the past 6 years and Dorothy's
& my friendship grew thru our doggies. Before Tigger became blind
we have fond memories of our releasing their leashes and their running
down the street towards each other in greeting. And just yesterday
morning Tigger greeted Corky's approach with the biggest tail wag!!
But then he had a really bad day. A week ago we learned his kidneys
were failing and he had some really bad days. He rallied some but
became steadily weaker thru the day yesterday.

"On Monday, September 18th at 10:45am, Kiki
Cougar Mellowcat Wilson made her
way to the rainbow bridge.
She was undergoing surgery to determine the
extent of a tumor and fluid buildup that was invading her abdomen.
...
We all know the emotional committment required
to care for a seriously ill animal, and when they leave abruptly it's such
a
strange and empty feeling. No more shots -
no more meds - no more cleaning up the litterbox misses. All those things
we do out of love, and would glady do still. The house is quiet, and we
are all depressed, yet I wouldn't change a minute. These few days of pain
are nothing compared to the years of joy we shared.
I realized on the way home it was 19 yrs this
month that she came to me, and now I can't believe she's really gone. We'll
get her ashes later this week, and take her with us when we move to Tennessee
(she'd be with us in spirit in any case).
My solace comes from the fact that I know she was warm and dry and fed
every night for the last 19 years - and now she's is in God's hands, free
from pain and that sweet little body that had turned against her. Much
as I wanted to fix her, in the end all I could do is say goodbye. My last
request was that she wait for me at the bridge,
and I'm sure she will.
To everyone who sent good wishes, our heartfelt
thanks. You gave us the courage to do the right thing, which was giving
her this last chance at life, without prolonging death. She had a great
life, and left loved and with dignity. She is already terribly missed.

cat in the universe. WRONG! ChooChoo gave
us hugs and kissies from the very
first, and was laying in my lap when she gave
a huge sigh and passed to the
Bridge to become Mariah Rose's personal guide,
or so I would like to believe.
She always loved children, and probably knew
this child was special. We knew
she was slowing down, and she was active to
the very end. She had no illness
and we loved more than I can say. God will
take care of her and all the
others until we can resume our duties..."

"If you cross the road from the front of our house,go down through the woods and up past the waterfall, there is a burial site for our other companions. I know she was seeing and hearing Rusty, Oreo and Mr. B. before she left us. She was so peaceful. she turned her head to us and barked once more, then she was gone from us and across the Bridge with her lifelong friends and companions at 11:30 PM Oct. 26th."

Britt is well known to everyone in the Muffin
family as she was instrumental
in her family's adopting Shali, the very first
Muffin rescue.
Were it not for Britt's acceptance of this
beautiful girl, Shali's fate would not have been such a happy one.
"God has answered our last
prayer for Britt and carried her
peacefully to Rainbow Bridge. ...
"We then took Britt to the Pet cemetary
and arranged for
cremation and picked out an urn so she will
always be near us.
Thank you all for your
prayers during this long and trying ordeal.
Though I still cry, I am also relieved that
our baby is finally at rest
and will be waiting for the day we will all
be together again.
"We've always said she was
the regal one of my girls, the mature one,
maybe because she is English. She had
a demanor about her that was very
undog like when she was being the normal Britt
... She was dignified, extremely obedient
and understood whatever you said to her. ..."

Biscuit came into our lives in September, 1996,
a senior rescue from a shelter
in New York State. She travelled all
the way to
New Brunswick, Canada, to become a vital part
of our family.
She was a total character and she is totally
missed.
It is just not the same without the "grey
ghost" dogging my footsteps or
barking in my ear at 4:00 a.m. for a snack.

We took her to my friends farm and she is

It is so strange without her."
Give all your pups a hug tonight. Wish I could.
