Kathy says, "My Lhasa, Goldi, was diagnosed
with diabetes in Aug 1998 at the age of 11yrs.
I had an extremely difficult time regulating
her. Later (Dec 98) we found out she had
cancer as well, which was why we were having
such difficulty regulating her.
Cancer ran in her family. Her mother died
of cancer, and two of her pups that I
kept both died of the cancer by the ages of
10 & 11. Unfortunately, I lost Goldi
in Jan 99. "

Charlotte writes, "... My lovely Meg just left
us, at the
ripe old age of 10, and two years and four
months after being diagnosed
with diabetes. ... Turns out she had also
recently developed Addison's disease, which is fatal
if untreated, and only treatable by steroids,
which we all know don't fly well with
diabetics. ... She had been a working
cattledog in Australia at my parents' ranch, and
I got her when she decided to break into the
chickenyard and help
herself to my mum's best laying hens. Meg
moved with me to Texas from Australia in 1995,
and at a time when I was halfway around the
world from everyone I knew and cared about,
she was my little shadow. I took her kayaking
with me in Austin almost every weekend until she went
blind, and several times after that. We went
on roadtrips together through Louisiana, Florida, Georgia,
Tennessee, Mississippi and Alabama, and her
last big adventure was going camping with me last Thanksgiving.
She had many friends at the vet clinic, and
my eyes were not the only
ones red with tears when the time came. I'm
moving back to Australia in the middle of this year,
and was hoping Meg would...well, not exactly
see, but at least smell her homeland again.
I'm going to take her ashes back with me and
plan to scatter them on the cliff we used to walk along
at the entrance to Sydney Harbor. ...
don't ever doubt that
you're doing the right thing. I'd do it all
again in a heartbeat.
Hug your animals tonight and think of my Meg.
She was a good dog and I
loved her very much. I'm going to miss her.
Regards,
Charlotte.

"Chubb was an amazing Dwarf Siberian Hamster,
who adopted me one day cold January day. He was outgoing, inquisitive,
brave, and very much a people-hamster. In June, he was diagnosed with diabetes,
and many wonderful people sent their encouragement, advice and support
with regards to his treatment. Sadly, not much is known about the treatment
of diabetic hamsters, and Chubb left us to go to the Rainbow Bridge on
the 17th of July. Chubb's legacy is that there is now a veterinarian who
knows much more about the treatment of hamsters, and so any other hamster
who is stricken with diabetes will have the benefit of this knowledge.
Chubb left an indelible mark on my heart, and has changed my life in ways
I am only just finding out about. He will be greatly missed."

"This is Rowdy. Rowdy was a 1/2 Rottweiler
1/2 Doberman.
He was born in October 1990. We acquired him when my aunt saved
a litter of pups from aneighbor who wasn't taking care of them.
We went and looked at them, and Rowdy just jumped at our hearts.
Not the biggest in the litter, butsomething about him stood out.
As it turns out, he was the biggest of all when he was finally full grown.
He was as tall as a 32 gallon trash can,and at his maximum weight,
he was 145 pounds. 145 pounds of pure love and affection and devotion.
In the picture is my son Kevin. Kevin and Rowdy were totally
inseparable. The wrestled and body slammed each other on the ground.
Kevin could even take Rowdy anywhere he wanted to go without
a leash. Rowdy listened to every command given by a 3 year old. ...
"Rowdy left us totally unexpectantly in July of 1999.
He is greatly missed, best dog we have ever had.

my other dogs who he hasn't seen in a while.
