I have 2 diabetics cats,....but I am sure giving injections to a
dog is very similar. My cats seemed to be more bothered by holding
them still to give the shot,..So I give them their injections
while they are eating a tablespoon of meat baby food. I pet them
a few times first, then I lift the skin, and inject. I inject several
different areas of my cats.( on the top, basically from their neck,
all the way down to before their hip area) I rotate the areas I inject
with time. They are SO into the baby food (which they LOVE!!),
that they don't even seem to notice.

I also use the finest gauge syringe I can get. 31 gauge

The tent method is what Muffie's vet recommend also and I think most people
are doing injections this way because the insulin is administered subcutaneous
rather than into muscle.
-
One thing that isn't mentioned much is that you should NOT stay on the
same injection site because it can get sore. I was told to start
on one side of Muffie's back near her shoulders (it wouldn't matter where
you started) and work my way down that side and up the other so there was
a period of a week or so before the first site was used again.

My little guy is so skinny i could not possibly go below his shoulder there
is nothing but bone and skin on his entire body. I am afraid I will
stick a bone. All I am able to use is the loose skin on the back of his
little neck. The only good thing about his shot time is that treat I give
him, he is always
ready and waiting for that. I give him chickken breast that I
boil and he acts like it is Prime Rib or Lobster.

She gets cooked beans as a treat before and after. She loves
them and does anything to get them.
