KACEY CIBIK

Kacey & Adeline

Kacey was born on June 18th 1988. A very happy active puppy.
Life was good for Kacey, and then in March of 1998, he was diagnosed with cushings, we were lucky to get him quickly and easily controlled.

In May of 1998 he had calcium bladder stones removed. , again he recovered quickly. He was not finished,, on June 19th  2000, diabetes came a calling. Even though our other poodle Echo had diabetes, this blew us off our platform. He was so-so about the food change, he wanted our food, so we all became vegetarians, since Kacey does, not, not like veggies, he soon thought his diabetic food was great, still does. He did not like his shots, a BD inject was suggested, and that has been the greatest idea, he is not even aware of his shots. It only takes one of us to give him his shots now.

We never left Kacey home alone, we take him with us everywhere, get a sitter for special occasions. Diabetes has not changed our lives, we still take Kacey with us everywhere, now we are aware of time.

We never leave the house without out our "Kacey Kit" in it we have syrup, food, and water.even if it's a short time away from the house, I always say you never know.  When we go on holidays with Kacey the glucometor comes along, and he is really good about letting me test him., once I was able to get blood.

He has slowed down, at times, especially during the hot summer, he saves his running for the winter, smart dog.

Update:

Sadly, on August 06, 2004, Kacey pased away.  He was 16 years and 1 month, 17 days

Kacey developed  on set of doggie alzheimers, in the fall of 2003, He mostly forgot his potty training, he would get stuck in corners occassionally. Kacey knew us, would still greet us at the door,h ad a good appetite, and loved to go on walks. We treated him with Anipryl and accupuncture. He went through about a month, of where he would not sleep during the night, he paced, and, he also paced his awake time, luckily, he slept a lot.

One morning he woke up and did not eat breakfast, very unusual for Kacey, we immediately took him to the vet, while we were there talking to the vet, Kacey looked at me, and shudder went through his whole body, and he died,  he took that awful desicion out of our hands, it was the last ultimate gift of love to us. Kacey was 16 years and 1 month, 17 days.
