Halie and I got Maudie given to us by a little old lady who had advertised a free dog on the radio. My mom and Halie went to see her and of course fell in love with her. We got her in either 2002 or 2003. She was born in 1999. Maudie's first owner had passed away so this
other lady got her, and then she had dogs of her own and couldn't keep
her. She was very shy at first. Then once she got to know us she
was right at home. She is a lap dog, when I am home she is on my
lap. She also has a nanny and grandpa, (my parents). She knows my
mom by nanny, it is funny you say you want to go to nanny's and she perks
those little ears up and starts jumping up and down. She loves to
go for car rides. Mainly when she gets to go visit my parents.
She doesn't care for men but she does love my brother Mike, and my dad
Leslie.
She was diagnosed with diabetes on May 9th, 2006. We thought
our lives were over and we cried for 2 whole days.. We just couldn't even
imagine having our baby gone.. But we got a second opinion with another
vet and we started the insulin shots twice a day. She just had a
check up today and her glucose was 114. We have to think that it
a good improvement since it was 371 when we started. I don't want to jinx
her so I don't say much. Take one day at a time and love her as much as
we possibly can. God willing she will be with us for several several
happy, healthy years.
I will keep you all updated. Keep in touch.. Thanks to the muffin group for being there for us. We definitely needed everyones support and thoughtful and kind words.. It meant a lot to us. So now we go on with our lives and take care of our Maudie dog.
Keep her in your thoughts and prayers. Thanks again for all the kind words..
